{Sexy Spotlight} ......Our First Celebrity Package

“I got my nails done yesterday, woke up today and got my hair cut and highlighted, came here, and saw all my clothes laid out; I’ve got my own personal stylist — it’s like a day in the life of Kim Kardashian,” our secret celebrity told me between set changes. As she spoke one of Jenny’s hair and makeup artists put finishing touches to our client’s hair at the crown to ensure her freshly curled tresses would have the perfect amount of body for her next set of photos.

Our model, who’s opted to withhold her name from this spotlight, was the first to book Jenny’s most indulgent Celebrity Package, which includes an editorial magazine experience (which means it takes place either throughout her entire studio or on location), two photographers, and a cinematographer. The package also comes with a “cinema bite” that showcases behind-the-scenes footage of your day of shooting, a disc of your entire collection of photos including printing rights, a full day of hair and makeup artistry, and a classy Italian portfolio carrying fifty of your favorite and most stunning images (are you drooling yet?).

For this first celebrity shoot, our guest chose to be done up and photographed at her all-American lake house, equipped with vintage cars, scenic nature, and horses. When I arrived at the shoot, the smell of springtime was in the air. I wasn’t sure where to find Jenny and her staff, but I just had to listen. (If I’ve learned anything about anything Jenny does, it almost always involves music!)

I walked into the space where everyone was stationed, which I can only describe as a barn, paved with nice beige flooring. A table holding a giant trunk of makeup and tons of photography equipment stood next to our model, who sat casually atop a stool with curlers in her hair as the stylist swept glistening shadows across her lids. She did a phenomenal job of making our client’s beautiful green eyes pop under a flirty frame of new eyelashes. (Ladies, those lashes really do make all the difference.)

Not too far away, a countertop covered in lingerie, heels, and accessories beckoned (Umm, let me just mention that the client spend over $900 at Victorias Secret!!!) It was like a dream mini-closet of Victoria’s Secret’s latest collection. The cinematographer (the only male Jenny will ever let near a shoot!) swooped around silently, catching these details on camera.

“Are you nervous?” I asked, suddenly feeling very plain in comparison (let’s face it — there’s just something about wearing elegant intimates and spunky stilettos that makes you feel like a whole new person).

“Of course!” our guest exclaimed. “I mean, who wouldn’t be? I’m going to try and ease myself through the outfits, ’cause I feel most comfortable starting out covered up and revealing more as the shoot goes on.”

After her makeup was done and her curls were let down, she set off for the bathroom to slip into her first outfit. As soon as I heard the bold first notes to Britney Spears’s “Toxic” blast from the surround sound, and our client stepped out in a bedazzled, lacy black “all-in-one” with garters that held up thigh-high stockings, I knew this marked the beginning of an unforgettable photoshoot.

Jenny eased her into the shoot with a few standing poses at the entrance to the barn, experimenting with different effects of her new flash equipment. They’d really lucked out with a terrific sky that cast a beautiful light on our secret celebrity, who was a natural! I could tell she was nervous starting out, but she stood on those vampy black stilettos with plenty of confidence and shot smoldering glances at Jenny right off the bat. (I was duly impressed — not easy to do when you’re put on the spot!)

They moved to an expanse of grass and continued with more standing shots, as Jenny crouched and climbed to get different perspectives for a better array of shots. (She is hilarious, by the way, blurting out self-deprecating comments as she works. She was all paranoid about hurting herself before she hopped onto a tall planter holding a palm tree. Fair enough, I suppose, coming from the girl watching from the earth below!)

Soon enough, it was time for our secret celebrity’s second outfit, a black-and-white lacy pushup combo with a matching bodice belt and translucent black bikini bottoms. Jenny suggested everyone move toward the dock overlooking a small lake, where she modeled a series of seated poses. This is where Jenny’s expertise really kicked into gear, with plenty of verbal direction and physical guidance. She was everywhere, crouching low, lying down, squatting . . . it was like watching a frenzied yogi. (Seriously, she gets a workout.)

Meanwhile, our client followed Jenny’s direction seamlessly and cast us flirtatious glances that were reminiscent of actual Victoria’s Secret models, smiling with an expert tilt of her head. I couldn’t even believe it when she told me she had no idea what she was doing because she really looked like a star. As the shooting went on, you could tell she had relaxed, as her rapport with Jenny became more playful.

Our secret celebrity’s next shoot would take place in front of an area framed with large rocks. She changed into a soft white babydoll and a long dreamcatcher necklace, carrying a pair of coral pink heels as she stepped down the rocks into the grass. The client fluffed her hair and shot coy looks at Jenny and Cory as they captured her on camera, looking surprisingly relaxed out there.

Back inside the barn for another touchup, I asked our secret celebrity for further comment. “The nerves wear off, and I think that eases my shoulders, so I take better photos.” Then, she added, “I’m in my underwear. I can do anything!”

She slipped on a pair of brown leather boots. Jenny and Cory tentatively slid themselves under the electric fence after her to join her for some shots with the horses. (I decided to play it safe and watch from the other side!) There was a gentle breeze that provided an amazing windblown quality to her hair; I’m convinced Jenny made a pact with Mother Nature for ideal conditions that day.

During her next makeup change, the secret celebrity simply gushed — “I feel like this would be the best present ever from a significant other; it’s not another necklace or bracelet, or flowers . . . it’s a whole day of you feeling like a celebrity. You can’t put a price on it.”
“What do you plan to do with the prints?” I asked, wondering whether this was more a gift for herself or for her special someone.  “I’ll probably give them to my boyfriend for his birthday,” she said.

Then came the most unique of all the sets: shots of our model in glimmering white on her powder pink vintage Ford T-bird, which she leaned against, drove in, and lay upon for some sultry and smiling shots.

As the shoot drew to a close, our secret starlet changed into a vivid neon bra-and-panty combination that looked stunning against her recently bronzed skin and the spring green of the surrounding grass. She was at the height of confidence, blowing kisses to the camera and offering coy winks and smirks. She had really, truly transformed into a celebrity that day . . .

Good thing, too, because about five minutes later, the rain came down . . .

{Review} Lemont Boudoir Photography

Lemont Boudoir Photography

ABOVE AND BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS :-)
I was hesitant at first at the idea of this photo shoot but went along with it anyway because I knew it would be a true surprise as my wedding gift for my soon to be hubster. I am also a licensed cosmetologist and like my hair/makeup to always be top notch. I chose to only have my hair done which Megan did an AMAZING job and I was pleased without her having to make any adjustments (which trust me, is no easy feat.)
I have an amazing eye for detail and I noticed all these special touches around the studio that made it just so fun, bright and energetic- a place I really felt so excited to be in and surprisingly right at home. I could tell before even meeting Jenny by the way the studio was decorated that she was someone that absolutely LOVES her work and cares about all the little things that makes a true artist.
After getting my hair done I met Jenny and immediately felt super comfortable and found her SO easy to talk to. I had such a blast throughout the entire photo shoot and she even let me contribute a couple of my own ideas. I cannot wait to see the finished product but from this experience I trust Jenny and her work 100% and would HIGHLY recommend if you are even considering a boudoir shoot to take the plunge! You definitely won't regret it!
Thank you so much Jenny & Megan! XOXO

{Review} Naperville Boudoir Photography

Boudoir Photography Naperville

{Quote} ...........I can't even to begin to tell you how amazing Jenny and her staff are. I will be the first to admit I hate being photographed and pretty much shy away from being the center of attention so I thought I was crazy spending money on something I didn't think I would even enjoy. The day before my shoot I was pretty nervous and was ready for it to be over with. I am not usually a typical "girly girl" so picking out outfits was a struggle but Jenny was so helpful and excited to answer any questions I had before I arrived. She was more on top of my shoot than I was, which was extremely helpful because I didn't really know what I was doing.
The day of my shoot I was starting to get nervous about what my hair and make up would look like. The stylists asked to see what I was wearing and what I was looking for with my hair and make up in order to pick a style that would make me look amazing in the photos but still let me feel like myself. When I looked in the mirror I was shocked to see so much make up and such a bold look but I knew it would make the pictures amazing.
I did not meet Jenny until my hair and make up were complete and I immediately knew I had no reason to be nervous. Jenny was all smiles when she came into the room and I felt as if she was one of my long lost friends. I have never laughed so much in a one hour period as I did with Jenny and the time flew by.
Jenny guided me through the whole shoot and I forgot I was posing for a camera half the time. I honestly can say I wish my shoot lasted for another hour. Jenny gave me so many ideas for amazing poses and I know she had a hundred more up her sleeve. After my shoot I was wondering if I would be able to come up with enough pictures I loved to fit an album and I was completely shocked when I found myself back in Jenny's office a week later buying more. Jenny made me feel like I was the most important person to enter the room and has a passion for photography that left me feeling confident and beautiful; and it wasn't just because of the fake eyelashes :)
I originally did this for my fiance but I am not going to lie...a bought a couple pictures for myself too. Every girl should feel vain once in their life right? :) If you are even the slightest bit interested or if you feel like stepping out of the box and doing something completely daring and uncomfortable you will not be disappointed with your experience at Jenny Taylor's!!
Jenny will definitely be on speed dial for my next photo shoot and I can't wait to see how she out-does herself next time :)

I don't know where I should begin. I absolutely loved my shoot. Jenny is an amazing and friendly person. She likes to set up a friendly chat to get to know what you like and want.   After that if you have any questions she responds fast. I hardly wear any make up and Brooke did an outstanding job that I loved. She did the make up perfect for my skin color. I actually felt pretty and beautiful all dolled up. Brooke was amazing, she carried a conversation he whole time and was super friendly. I would love to have Brooke do my make up all the time if i could.
Jenny was absolutely amazing. I was so nervous and brooke &  Jenny made me feel so relaxed. Jenny walked me through everything and how to pose. Her photography skills are amazing she knows how to capture every moment perfectly. I highly recommend her and I will definitely be going to her again in the future. I truly loved her. Jenny has a friendly personality and she keeps her boudoir shoots classy, so it was easy for me to relax. She does all type of photography not just boudoir so I recommend you take a chance and go to Jenny. You won't be disappointed.

[Sexy Spotlight] .....What is a Boudoir Party?

[Sexy Spotlight] What is a Boudoir Party?

Ladies, we all know how mysterious our lovely Jenny Taylor can be. Like me, you may have heard she sometimes holds what’s called a "Boudoir party", but you’re not quite sure what that means.....

Well I'll let you in on a BIG secret.... I’d first learned of Jenny’s boudoir parties on Facebook months ago before the new studio had even opened. Ooh! Sounds like fun! I thought. But what is it? What do you do? The description she had given on Facebook was, “It’s like a Tupperware party,” but I’d never been to one of those either, so I was still pretty clueless for a good long while.

Luckily, being the Boudoir Bloggin’ Babe, Jenny invited me to observe the first-ever boudoir party held at the new studio (they used to be held at clients’ houses)  so I could help give you the scoop.

Several days prior to the event, Jenny asked me to help her think up appropriate game ideas for the party.  I got this burst of momentum and churned out a gameboard for Boudoir Party Jeopardy, and immediately sent it to Jenny, who loved it!

Together, we spent an afternoon coming up with trivia about the company (since the cash prizes on the board were for real, and our guests would be able to use them toward future shoots — yes, that means you!), and in the end there were twenty-four “answer-and-question” sets. I devised cards for the game and got everything printed and ready to go for the party.

Shortly after I arrived at the studio, Jenny gave me my official black blinged-out Jenny Taylor Boudoirs T-shirt (which of course you could always purchase for yourself) — yea! I was finally ready to be “seen” on-site.

The studio, ready to receive its guests, looked even more awesome than I remembered it. Bold, rich colors adorned the walls of every space, with gorgeous metal prints of former “boudoir angels” (that is, previous clients who have posed for Jenny), chandeliers dangling in each room . . . and even the dress form in Jenny’s cozy office had changed outfits since the last I’d seen it. Apparently, Jenny had also recently installed a stereo system throughout the studio that is remotely controlled by her iPhone(!), which played current hits to help create a chill party atmosphere. I was greeted by the multi-talented Taylor, Jenny’s faithful assistant, marketer, and makeup artist (phew!). The guests had provided a ton of tempting refreshments, which sat displayed on a desk on the way to the sitting room where most of the party would take place.

Jenny made her entrance, introduced herself, and explained her services so the guests could familiarize themselves. If you haven’t yet met her in person, Jenny has this warm and friendly way about her that makes her super-approachable like you’ve known her since kindergarten — like a schoolmate that’s super-generous, that is! She revealed that there were over $1000 in prizes to be given away that night. . . .

By the time Boudoir Party Jeopardy was underway, all the guests had visibly relaxed and settled in as though they were just hanging out together at someone’s house. It was so exciting to see the finished product in action and see our guests toil, collaborate, and even blindly guess to win over $100 each! It was a little bumpy at first, since it was everybody’s first time, but we got the hang of it in no time. Our “answers and questions” were a bit tricky, but with a bit of effort, the ladies still managed to do pretty well!

After Jeopardy, Jenny showed everyone the way to the salon, where Taylor would give complimentary mini-makeovers as Jenny opened her office to anyone with specific questions for her. I was eager to see the ladies after their “glamified” makeup jobs, but it was time for me to skedaddle! I did catch a glimpse of the lucky first guest whose stunning blue eyes were made to pop with swipes of glistening gold eyeshadow and dramatic mascara. (I told her she should take advantage of her new look by going out — it was Friday night, after all.)

I left the party that evening feeling refreshed and happy for those girls. The opportunity to do a boudoir session is unlike any other experience we everyday folk get to do on a daily basis — and those lucky ducks had the chance to score one with heavy discounts they won at the party!

From what I witnessed that evening, hosting your own boudoir party seems like a super easy and fun way to find out what Jenny Taylor Boudoirs is all about, score yourself some boudoir goodies, and book yourself a session of unmatched fabulous . . . though I’d get on it quick! Demand is high, but it’s totally worth the wait.

{Sexy Spotlight} ......Sitting on the Lap of Luxury

A great way to spend a fun evening checking out awesome local names and services is to get yourself out on the town for a Ladies Night Chicago event. Yep, this includes Jenny Taylor Boudoirs, and is incidentally where Jenny and I had just missed each other the day before we interviewed! (Miss the story? You can read about it here.)

Ladies Night, 220 Communications, and Cutting Edge Events held a fabulous evening on April 4 called the Lap of Luxury, an evening celebrating beauty, well being, and fashion — all things we know and love! It was a fantastic opportunity to shop, get pampered, and see some local up-and-coming fashions while sipping cocktails. It was held at the Grossinger Autoplex in Lincoln Park — an interesting venue considering Ladies Night networking events usually take place in bars or nightclubs, but it worked out perfectly, as it was spacious and welcoming, with tall, white ceilings and so much to explore.

When my best friend and I got to the Autoplex, I was greeted at the front tables to check our tickets. (Portions of the proceeds went to supporting One Hope UnitedAutism Speaks, and Y-Me Race at Your Pace for Breast Cancer Research.) They gave us wristbands and tickets for a complimentary drink at the bar (as thanks for being guests), and then it became this big wonderland of health and beauty. Unfortunately, I missed the hors d’oeuvres (but did run into a friend who coincidentally was working that night as a waiter for one of the restaurants catering the event!) . . . but I did manage to snag some free chocolate. Other guests who’d gotten VIP passes would receive an additional cocktail on the house, a swag bag, and apparently, additional “secret surprises” including no-wait priority for the free spa services. The first 100 guests to arrive also got complimentary valet parking!

The place was filled with tables. The first floor boasted new collections that were to come in the big fashion show that would take place later on in the evening, and led to a big escalator that took us to the main floor of the event, where it showcased a variety of goodies and services, from offering massages, manicures, acupuncture, free samples, and raffles.

When we arrived upstairs, I was nearly intimidated by how many people there were, and things to see . . . and worried it’d be hard to find Jenny! But fortunately, Jenny was in the perfect location, and after we got sucked into an initial vortex of jewelry (haha) and freed ourselves, we looked left and there was the Jenny Taylor table, set up right at the middle of the wing.

They were busy! I had to wait a bit to say hello to Jenny and Whitney, who helps out at these events — the hot pink Boudoir Wheel and the gorgeous shots she puts on display certainly pulls in a lot of interest, because there were people practically lining up to win some boudoir goodies and talk to Jenny.

Once I got to Jenny, I introduced her to my friend, and Jenny presented me one of her friends, also a photographer, who sometimes helps Jenny out for her shoots. (You might have been wondering if Jenny is the only one wielding a camera in her company, and it turns out she actually has a number of other photography pros on hand!) We talked briefly and exchanged info (I might guest blog for her in the future?), and I asked Jenny if she needed a hand at the table or if she wanted me to go off and do some wandering. Whitney was doing a great job talking to new guests approaching the table, and Jenny is a whiz at multitasking, so she let me loose to explore a bit more for you.

The full-service bar was pretty much dead center, a circular black counter that offered cocktails and wine, which I think only cost $5 if you’d already used your free drink ticket. I ordered a rum and Coke, which I nursed until the fashion show that took place downstairs.

When we got to the seats on the first floor for the show, I was a little confused. Why were they all pointing toward the elevators we’d come down on? There was a narrow sliver of a path in front of the seats, but it hardly looked enough to act as a runway.

One of Chicago’s own television personalities came out to kickstart the show, giving props to the designers and sponsors. Then, it all made sense: The runway was the elevator itself! Models donning clothing from lines that ranged from elegant to eclectic (and eventually, even Vegas-style sparkle!) rode the elevator down in front of the audience and strutted down the slim pathway across the front row. I was transfixed by some of the beautiful designs (I used to study fashion design, actually!), but also found myself coveting the models’ hairstyles. They sported teased pompadours with unique details, like tucked in braids or knots at the back — sure, it’s different from the voluminous curls that we sport in bombshell boudoir shots, but it didn’t make it any less fabulous. (Kudos to the stylists at Ulta who did the models’ hair.)

As I obsessed over their ’dos, my friend obsessed over the purses they paired with their outfits. The cool thing about the show was that it wasn’t as far removed as the odd stuff you can see on the haute couture runways in New York and Europe, but it was mostly clothing I could see myself wearing to a cocktail party.

When the show wrapped, my friend and I snaked back upstairs through the maze of tables to check out some racks of clothing and both left with new purses, which we adore!

At the end of the event, I stopped by to show off my new merchandise to Jenny and Whitney, who’d had a pretty successful evening as well. I told Jenny her table was probably the most unique (“And coolest,” she said with a smile, “because of you guys!”). There were a lot of jewelry and clothing displays, but Jenny Taylor was the only photography service I’d seen that evening. The table was, just like her studio, clean and inviting, without clutter, but tons of draw (must be the come-hither nature of boudoir!)

Overall, I really had a blast (should’ve brought a shopping tote, though). Ladies Night is an opportunity to meet cool local businesses and check out what they’ve got to offer you — you can check them out on Facebook. Next time Jenny Taylor’s at one, come enjoy it and meet her! You can take a spin on the Boudoir Wheel (where every spin is a winner) or book a shoot with Jenny. C’mon, you know you want to.

{Review} Northwest Indiana Boudoir Photography

Boudoir Photography Northwest Indiana

After debating for several weeks, and doing lots of research online at photographers in the Chicago area, I decided to take the plunge and make an appointment to do a boudoir photo-shoot, to make a wedding gift for my soon-to-be hubby. I am so happy I picked Jenny Taylor Boudoirs!! I was very nervous at first, but after talking to Jenny on the phone twice before my appointment, as well as through email, she put me at ease by preparing me for what to expect, as well as helping me figure out what to bring and wear. I was greeted with a smile on the morning of by Megan, who did a fantastic job with my hair and makeup. She was friendly and we chatted the whole time she did my makeover. When I finally looked in the mirror I was shocked! If it's ok to say, I looked gorgeous! Megan did an amazing job with my hair, makeup and applying false eyelashes (which I had never worn before, and she had to talk me through those a little!). When Jenny arrived she was super nice and energetic. She settled my nerves almost immediately by asking to see what I had brought to wear and assuring me that I had made great choices. That alone gave me more confidence b/c she was excited about everything I showed her. All throughout the shoot, she was complimenting me and encouraging me. It was a very relaxed environment and we laughed and chatted the whole time. I know that she does this all the time, but she made it very personal and all about me and my fiance. I had so much fun that I forgot I was posing for pictures in my underwear! I just saw a "sneak peek" picture and am so excited to see the rest of them!! Thanks Jenny and Megan for making this such an enjoyable experience for me and I know that my fiance will love the finished product!!

{Sexy SpotLights} .....Jenny Taylor’s First Shot at Matchmaking, part 2

If you missed the Dating Game, I’ve got the firsthand downlow for you because I’ve got a special interview with one of our winning couples, Paul and Stephanie, for you to check out!

How did you get entered in the contest, and what was it like becoming a finalist?

Paul: (chuckling) I got entered ’cause my brother was actually in it. He got referred to it by one of our friends who’s friends with Jenny. I was a little surprised to win the voting round and was excited. People saw I was on there and asked about it, and I told ’em to go vote for me.

Stephanie: Well, I had heard about it through Jenny’s blog and decided to do it. It was really fun, and I had a good time doing it. Trying to get everyone to vote was challenging ’cause I had to walk them through it, so I wasn’t a finalist from the voting round. Jenny called and interviewed with me. . . . She was so friendly and funny. It was such a good time; I was so excited! It was a great opportunity.

What were your thoughts on the Dating Game?

Paul: It was fun. I liked the questions a lot. They were really good for first getting to know someone. I liked the two split rooms and the audience.

Stephanie: It was a lot of fun — it was really interesting ’cause with the questions that she asked, there was a point in time each of the bachelors sounded like he might be a right choice for me. It was a really great way to do it and the way it was all set up was so much fun.

Tell me a bit about the date. Where did you go and how did it go?

Paul: We went to Rosebud — really good Italian restaurant. The date was smooth and Stephanie was really nice and we got along great.

Stephanie: Yeah, we went to Rosebud and had a really good time. He was a really nice guy, really good. I think we both had a good time. It was really nice!

Sounds like you enjoyed it! So, any potential for a second date?

Paul: We had plenty to talk about. I made a good friend.

Stephanie: I don’t really know since we didn’t make one, but I definitely made a good friend.

It’s interesting you both felt the same way. But as I always say, you never know.

Stephanie: Yeah, you never know. But I think Paul was the best choice out of all three.

Paul: You just gotta go into these things to have fun. Not everyone you meet is going to be a soulmate. So just have a good time.

All right, Stephanie, any thoughts about your makeover?

Stephanie: Loved it. The hair and makeup artists were so funny. She taught me how to tease my hair (laughs). Jenny was so sweet and nice. I had a great time. I hope I get to see her again! This was like nothing I had ever experienced before.

Is this something you’d do again? Do you have any advice for future contestants of a similar contest?

Paul: Yes, I would do it again. It was fun. I’d recommend going into it with the expectation of a good time and potentially meeting someone you enjoy hanging out with rather than setting yourself up for disappointment. I mean, it’s dating, and that doesn’t always mean true love.

Stephanie: I would do it again. It was really fun, and I’d definitely nominate other single friends to experience something like this as far as taking a positive risk. It’s definitely something I’ll look back on positively.

Looks like Jenny’s first shot at matchmaking was certainly a step in the right direction! All the contestants I got to talk to had a great experience and came out of it with no regrets (and a bunch of awesome free stuff!). I know Jenny, Amber, and I had a fantastic time with the contest.

When it comes to love . . . if you’re ready for it, it’s great to take that chance! In matters of the heart, especially at the beginning, you truly never know. (Take it from me; I wasn’t initially interested in any of my own serious boyfriends, but things obviously changed. ;)) Anyway, it’s a fantastic way to meet new people!

As for my buddy Wiktor, who had such a great time cracking everyone up during the Dating Game, he sent a basket of flowers to the studio with the following message:

“Hi Jenny and Amber,
No matter what the outcome may be, your efforts to make the world a better place will never go unappreciated. Thanks for the great experience, and please stay in touch.”

That’s the spirit! Now, let’s turn the focus over to you. Do you want to get glammed up by Jenny’s energetic and talented staff? Get to meet and know someone who you might hit it off with? Can you see yourself winning an awesome experience at a future Dating Game? We’d love to bring you future opportunities to do so!

How about meeting your fellow participants and other single-and-looking locals at a mixer in downtown Naperville? If this is something you or your single friends would be interested in us arranging for you, please let us know by commenting below or on our Facebook page! (Seriously, because we’ll only put it together if you want in on all the fun!)

There’s always something cool and fun going on at Jenny Taylor! We invite you to join us, but if you miss something, you know I’m here to give you the scoop! Come back next week for another glimpse into the exciting world of Jenny Taylor . . .

{Sexy SpotLights} .....Jenny Taylor’s First Shot at Matchmaking **Part 1

I remember the morning Jenny called me up, all excited about a new idea she was formulating in that whirlwind mind of hers. “What do you think of a ‘Chicago’s Most Eligible Bachelor and Bachelorette’ contest?”

“I LOVE it,” I told her. The details of it all hadn’t been fully decided yet at that point, but I felt super-excited for the potential it carried for all the people that would enter. What a unique way to meet someone! It sounded cooler than all the other matchmaking methods we’ve all heard of.

It was the first time I ever saw one of Jenny’s ideas blossom from concept to fruition, and it was of course one of the funnest things I’ve had the chance to be part of.

“I’m curious,” I also told Jenny that morning. “What made you think of this?”

“Well, doing what I do, a lot of men and women ask me if I ever work with single people I could possibly set them up with,” she said. “I just thought that this way, we could have some fun playing matchmaker.”

And the nominees are . . .

Usually, when it comes to “putting ourselves out there,” a lot of us can be really shy. Fortunately, Jenny had provided plenty of motivation for the ladies to win: Whichever female contestant would win the title of Chicago’s Most Eligible Bachelorette would win a complimentary “glamifying” makeover by Jenny’s skilled makeup artists and a swag bag containing goodies from local businesses. (It was almost enough to declare myself single and compete for the title myself!)

There were chances for three matched dates to occur after the Dating Game to take place on Sunday, March 25. If any of the female contestants matched with their corresponding male contestant (they would be divided by a wall during an hour-long interview), the couple would then win a dinner date on the house at the participating restaurant of their choice.  (And a Great thanks goes to Maggiano's of Naperville --Francesca's  --RoseBud of Naperville for providing such generous Dinners to our Winners that evening!)

In any case, we were considering the idea of inviting all contestants to a mixer to meet everyone who’d entered, so everyone would really have the chance to meet someone special. (We’re still playing around with the idea, so stay tuned.)

For a while, ladies all around Chicago were pouring in for a chance to nab the title. I was surprised to learn that it was the gentlemen, who are usually so vocal and enthusiastic about Jenny’s work (for obvious reasons), that were a little hesitant to enter.

Then Jenny announced that she would be taking nominees (with their permission, of course). I immediately thought of my boyfriend’s good friend Wiktor, who is hilarious and has always been a total gentleman, never missing an opportunity to hold doors open or walk you to your car. I sent Jenny a picture of him in a tux and a brief explanation describing why I thought he deserved to win, and when she called him to confirm his entry, he must have really won her over because the excitement was obvious to me the next time I talked to them both!

“Jenny is awesome,” Wiktor said as soon as I answered his phone call. To thank me, he offered to buy me dinner. And, as it turned out, one of his friends had also been entered, and they’d placed a private bet between them! If one of them should win and hit it off with his date, the other would pay for their second date. (Wiktor is a competitive guy.)

I found that it was pretty hit-or-miss when it came to finding willing nominees for the contest — some people were really open to the idea and enthusiastic to try something new, but others were a bit too nervous.

It really depended on a person’s attitude towards how they wanted to look for love. The best contestants were always the ones who were game enough to see what it could yield for them — because really, you never know. Plus, the nature of the Dating Game was such that emphasis was placed mostly on inner qualities, with interview questions for the finalists prepared specially to showcase their interests and personalities.

 Tally up the votes...

In fact, that was also the whole structure of the contest: For a week, all contestants’ photos and “reasons” for entering were displayed on the blog for a public vote. As an important aside for all future participants, remember to read Jenny’s contest rules! I felt bad for some contestants who received tons of votes by anonymous people; whose votes wouldn’t qualify.

After the week whizzed by, Jenny counted the qualifying votes and announced our first lucky set of finalists: Heather and Paul.

Then, in a flurry of four and a half hours, Jenny and her awesome assistant Amber interviewed each of the remaining contestants to determine which might hit it off best based on their answers.

The Dating Game

On Sunday, the environment of the studio, which is usually so open to exploration, was buzzing with excitement for what was to come. Ladies and gents sat in separately with a wall in the middle, with an audience on couches behind them.

Jenny stood in the center with an extensive list of questions.  These questions were thorough and important, covering a scope from “What’s your favorite kind of restaurant?” to “Would you like to have kids one day, and if so, how many?”

And the winner is . . .

As the hour went by, all the contestants, numbered 1-3, answered each question in turn with a notepad in hand, scribbling notes down so they could determine who they were most interested in going on a date with. If there was a match (e.g., female contestant 3 picked male contestant 1 and vice-versa), those two would go on a date.

I know you’re wondering now, what would happen if no one matched?

Well, we didn’t want to think about that because we wanted to think we did such a great job of matching that it was impossible . . . but alas, as fate would have it, that would be the one little bump in the road!

Since Jenny loves to give prizes away, and she had worked so hard on this contest, she decided to award each couple a dinner date — after a lot of consideration, it was best to match our finalists with the contestant Jenny and Amber had originally thought of pairing:

As soon as the contestants were revealed to each other, sparks already began to fly.

The game had been a hit! So many people loved it and have asked Jenny to hold another one that it seems like a total shame to let this round be the first and only one . . . especially if you missed your chance to enter! So the gears are turning in Jenny’s head for future, updated versions of the contest and Dating Game. I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
